Mongolia established diplomatic relations with the newly founded DPRK on 15 October 1948, becoming the second country after the Soviet Union to do so. During and immediately after the Korean War, Mongolia supplied extensive material assistance, supported reconstruction, and received North Korean war orphans, creating the historical setting in which early bilateral insignia such as this was produced and presented.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe badge is an elaborate suspended construction with rich red, blue, white, and pale-blue enamel. The upper bar displays a raised handshake, the established emblem of international friendship, between two blue-enameled panels. Below, the national flags carry the Mongolian Soyombo and the DPRK’s red star, joined above a radiant rising sun and framed by gilt laurel wreath. A traditional Mongolian ornamental knot crowns the central pendant, giving the design a distinctly national character while the combined flags express socialist solidarity between the two states.
