The centenary traces its origin to a reception-and-monitoring radio station established by order of the Revolutionary Military Council in July 1918. This specialized intelligence system subsequently operated under the Red Army, NKVD, MGB, MVD, KGB, FAPSI, and finally the FSB.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe badge is an elaborate multipiece sword-and-shield construction in gilt and silvered metal with red and deep-blue enamel. Its central blue globe is overlaid with a parabolic antenna, radio signal, key, and communications symbols, representing the interception, processing, and protection of electronic information. Above appears the Russian FSB double-headed eagle against the red field.
