A rare original Russian Foreign Intelligence Service Operational & Technical Support Directorate 60th Anniversary Badge, produced for the service’s jubilee in 2015. Known within Soviet and Russian foreign intelligence by the abbreviation OT, the operational-technical branch forms one of the highly specialized supporting arms of intelligence operations. Its officers worked directly with the technical side of clandestine activity: preparing and protecting intelligence material for secure storage and transmission, maintaining covert communications, detecting surveillance and listening devices, constructing protected facilities, and employing specialized methods including microphotography and secret writing. The service itself marked 60 years in April 2015, and this exact shield-form jubilee insignia is associated with that anniversary, intended for the comparatively restricted professional circle of serving operational-technical officers and veterans connected with the branch.

The badge is a substantial gilt-metal construction dominated by the traditional sword-and-shield imagery of the Russian security services. At center, the silvered SVR radiating star carries a blue globe and the red letters “OT,” while the large red-enamel numeral “60” identifies the anniversary. The red enamel scrolls translate as “Faithfulness to Duty” and “Devotion to the Motherland,” framing the composition and emphasizing the service character of the piece. The layered construction, contrasting gilt and silvered finishes, deep red and blue enamel, and twin clutch fittings on the reverse give the badge the substantial quality expected of the special-service jubilee issue.

Operational-technical material occupies a particularly specialized area of intelligence collecting because these officers worked behind the visible operational structure of foreign intelligence, providing the technical capabilities on which clandestine communications, secure information handling and protected overseas activity depended. Unlike general SVR anniversary material, this badge identifies a specific professional branch within Russian foreign intelligence, and its 60th-anniversary purpose connects it directly to the institutional history of the OT service. An especially strong example for an advanced collection of SVR, KGB First Chief Directorate, Soviet/Russian foreign intelligence, operational-technical or intelligence-service insignia.

https://khanmilitaria.com/products/russian-svr-foreign-intelligence-operational-technical-support-directorate-ot-60th-anniversary-badge-rare-official-issue
