A rare original 35th Anniversary Badge of the Organization “Veterans of Foreign Intelligence,” the principal veterans’ association connected with Russia’s foreign-intelligence community. The organization traces its foundation to 23 April 1991, when the Association of Foreign Intelligence Veterans was established; in 1996 it adopted its present organizational title. Its membership brings together retired professional intelligence officers whose careers were spent in Soviet and Russian foreign intelligence, preserving the traditions, institutional memory and professional fellowship of the service after retirement. The large “35” therefore commemorates the organization’s history rather than the anniversary of the SVR itself, making this a specifically identifiable veterans’ intelligence-service jubilee issue.

The badge follows the established heraldic language of the organization’s earlier insignia. A substantial silvered multi-ray star supports a gilt central medallion, where a blue-enamel representation of the globe is surrounded by a gilt wreath and overlaid with the prominent red-enamel 35th-anniversary numeral. The red outer ring carries the designation “Veterans of Foreign Intelligence” together with the abbreviation for the Regional Public Organization. The combination of silvered and gilt finishes, deep red enamel and blue enamel gives the piece the formal appearance associated with Russian intelligence-service commemorative insignia; the reverse is equipped with two separate clutch fasteners, providing secure attachment appropriate to its comparatively large format. The organization maintains its own established system of badges and commemorative distinctions, with anniversary issues documented as presentations to active members.

Material belonging specifically to the Foreign Intelligence Veterans organization occupies a narrower collecting field than general Russian security-service insignia. Its significance lies in its direct association with the retired professional community of Soviet and Russian foreign intelligence, including veterans whose careers passed through the KGB foreign-intelligence structures and the later SVR. This example represents one of the newest jubilee pieces in that continuing award tradition and is a particularly desirable addition to an advanced collection of SVR, KGB First Chief Directorate, Soviet/Russian foreign intelligence or intelligence-veteran insignia.

https://khanmilitaria.com/products/russian-svr-foreign-intelligence-veterans-organization-35th-anniversary-badge-rare-original-issue
