Description
This commemorative medal was issued in 1981 to mark the 60th anniversary of the founding of the Mongolian People’s Army, established in 1921 during the country’s socialist revolution. The obverse displays a bold red enamel star with the Soyombo national emblem at its center, framed by laurel branches and the number 60 in striking red enamel. The suspension bar features alternating red and blue enamel stripes reflecting the national colors, and the medal comes with its original ribbon bar, making it a complete set.
Created during the height of the Cold War, this decoration not only celebrated six decades of Mongolia’s military strength but also its enduring alliance with the Soviet Union. Awarded to officers, soldiers, and distinguished contributors, it recognized loyal service and dedication to the defense of the socialist state. Today, well-preserved examples with intact enamel and both ribbon components are increasingly sought after, representing a significant piece of Mongolian military and socialist history.
