Description
Original Item – Only One Available. This 1940s Mongolian Excellent Border Guard Badge, Type I is among the earliest officially issued decorations awarded to elite personnel of the Mongolian Border Guard during the immediate post-war period. Produced by the Moscow Artists Cooperative, this first-type issue reflects the superior craftsmanship and artistic standards reserved for high-prestige awards manufactured in Moscow for allied socialist states. Early Type I examples are recognized for their design, solid construction, crisp relief, and serial numbering, firmly placing this badge within the initial production phase.
The design vividly depicts a border guard standing before a frontier post, rifle in hand, surveying the surrounding terrain through binoculars, a powerful visual representation of vigilance, duty, and territorial protection. The multi-layered enamel work remains exceptionally well preserved, displaying vibrant color and sharp definition that is rarely encountered today. Notably, most surviving examples suffer from heavy enamel loss or cracking, by contrast, this badge stands out as one of the finest preserved examples currently available in the collector market.
The reverse is serial numbered, confirming official issuance and enhancing both authenticity and historical value. Due to its early manufacture, limited awarding period, and high attrition rate, original Type I Border Guard badges from the 1940s are extremely scarce, particularly in such condition. This piece represents a premium acquisition for advanced collectors of Mongolian, communist-era, and border service awards, combining rarity, historical significance, and exceptional state of preservation.
