1943–1973 Mongolian People’s Republic “Mongol Ard” WWII Fighter Squadron 30th Anniversary Badge – Extremely Rare Original Issue

Original Item – Only One Available. An exceptionally scarce 30th-anniversary badge of the “Mongol Ard” fighter squadron, issued in 1973 to commemorate one of Mongolia’s most important contributions to the Soviet war effort. In 1943, funds collected by the people of the Mongolian People’s Republic financed a squadron of twelve Lavochkin La-5 fighters, formally presented to the Soviet Air Force on 25 September 1943. Operating within the 2nd Guards Fighter Aviation Regiment, the squadron carried Mongolia’s name through the later campaigns of the Second World War and became an enduring symbol of Mongolian-Soviet military solidarity.

The badge is a substantial two-piece suspended construction. Its upper red bar places the Soviet hammer and sickle beside Mongolia’s Soyombo emblem, visually uniting the two allied states. Below, a gilt single-engine fighter with a red star on its tail flies across a textured sky-blue field. The white central panel reads “Mongol Ard Squadron,” while the lower red section bears the commemorative dates 1943–1973. 

Condition is very good and honest for its age, with attractive original gilt tone. Fine surface scratches, minor handling wear and small imperfections are visible in the photographs, while the articulated suspension and original spring-pin fastening remain complete. Squadron-related Mongolian insignia is encountered far less frequently than general military and anniversary badges, and this early commemorative piece represents a particularly difficult acquisition for an advanced collection of Mongolian aviation, Soviet allied forces or Second World War remembrance material.
