1950s Mongolian People’s Revolutionary Party “Sukhbaatar & Choibalsan” Honorary Badge – Rare Original Issue

Original Item – Only One Available. A rare 1950s honorary badge of the Mongolian People’s Revolutionary Party (MPRP) featuring the paired portraits of Damdin Sukhbaatar and Marshal Khorloogiin Choibalsan, two of the most prominent figures associated with Mongolia’s revolutionary and early socialist period. This was not an ordinary Party membership badge issued to every member. It was a selective honorary distinction awarded to chosen Party members in recognition of excellent service, distinguished Party work, and notable contribution to the objectives and activities of the MPRP. Sukhbaatar represented the foundational generation of the 1921 revolution, while Choibalsan subsequently occupied the highest levels of Mongolia’s political and military leadership, making their combined portrait an especially powerful piece of MPRP symbolism. 

The badge is constructed as a suspended gilt-metal decoration. Its circular lower element carries finely modeled overlapping left-facing portraits of Sukhbaatar and Choibalsan against a rich red enamel background, surrounded by an ornate traditional hammer pattern border. Above is a distinctive MPR's red-and-blue enameled suspension bar, the reverse of the medallion is plain, while the upper bar retains its original horizontal pin fastening. The surviving gilding, enamel, attachment system and natural surface patina are all particularly attractive features of this period example.

Early MPRP honorary decorations of this type are substantially more difficult to encounter than ordinary socialist-era membership, anniversary and mass-organizational badges. The combination of two major figures of revolutionary Mongolia on a single selectively awarded Party distinction gives this example particular historical and collector interest. Its period construction, original fastening and naturally aged, unrestored appearance make it a strong representative piece for an advanced collection of Mongolian communist-party awards, early MPR political insignia, or Cold War-era faleristics.
