Description
Original Item – Only One Available. A rare original Mongolian People’s Republic badge commemorating the 40th anniversary of the October Revolution, issued in 1957 and specifically marked Ulaanbaatar. The anniversary of the 1917 Bolshevik Revolution occupied an important place in the political calendar of socialist Mongolia: the Mongolian People’s Revolution of 1921 and the political system that followed developed in exceptionally close alliance with Soviet Russia and later the USSR, making major Soviet revolutionary anniversaries significant public occasions within the MPR as well. The inscription across this badge reads “40th Anniversary of the October Revolution,” while “Ulaanbaatar” at the base gives the piece a particularly specific capital-city association rather than presenting it as an anonymous general socialist commemorative.
For the specialist collector, this is especially appealing as an early MPR Soviet-revolution commemorative tied directly to Ulaanbaatar. Later Mongolian badges commemorating Soviet anniversaries were produced in numerous forms during the 1970s–1980s, but the heavier enamel issues of the 1950s belong to an earlier and much less frequently encountered generation of political insignia. Its dated historical context, explicit capital-city inscription and unmistakable Soviet-Mongolian symbolism make it a strong addition to a collection of early Mongolian People’s Republic badges, Soviet-Mongolian relations, communist revolutionary anniversaries or Cold War political insignia.
