Description
Original Item – Only One Available. A rare original 1959 Mongolian People’s Republic badge commemorating the 20th anniversary of the victory at Khalkhin Gol, the first anniversary badge issued for the historic 1939 campaign. The battles of Khalkhin Gol ended with the decisive Soviet–Mongolian victory over Japanese and Manchukuo forces in 1939 and became one of the foundational military victories of the MPR. Twenty years later, Mongolia marked the event with its first major jubilee commemoration, including dedicated 1959 anniversary material; subsequent official commemorations followed at the 30th, 40th, 50th and later anniversaries. This gives the present badge an especially important place in the Khalkhin Gol series: it is the earliest jubilee issue, preceding the far more familiar later anniversary badges and medals.
The badge is a substantial gilt-metal and multicolor enamel suspended construction. A rectangular USSR & MPR flag style enamel suspension supports the large central medallion, whose deep cobalt-blue field carries the raised inscription “Khalkhin Gol 20 Years.” Behind it rises a radiating gilt sunburst, while a pair of crossed swords dominates the foreground and is framed by a broad laurel wreath, giving the badge a strongly military and victory-oriented character. The reverse is plain gilt-toned metal, with the original period safety-pin fastening retained on the suspension.
For the specialist collector, the importance of this piece lies not simply in its rarity but in its position as the starting point of the entire Khalkhin Gol anniversary-badge tradition. Later 30th, 40th and 50th anniversary issues form a recognizable collecting series, but this 1959 piece is where that jubilee lineage begins. With its early date, heavy enamel manufacture, unmistakable 20-year inscription and overtly martial crossed-sword design, it is a particularly significant original issue for an advanced collection of Khalkhin Gol, Mongolian People’s Revolutionary Army, Soviet–Mongolian military history or early MPR commemorative insignia.
