Description
Original Item – Only One Available. An original Mongolian People's Republic Order of Combat Valor, Type 1, Variation 2, manufactured at the Moscow Mint in 1959 and awarded in late-1970s. Established on October 17, 1945, the Order of Combat Valor was among the highest military decorations of the Mongolian People's Republic, ranking immediately below the Order of the Red Banner of Combat Valor. It was conferred upon distinguished military personnel, commanders, political officers, border guards, and internal security personnel for exceptional service, military merit, and contributions to national defense. It could also recognize military units and institutions.
This example belongs to the second variation of the original screwback type, produced at the Moscow Mint in 1959 in a series of approximately 5,000 pieces, with serial numbers ranging from 1001 to 6000. The order features an impressive multi-piece silver construction with gilded radiating rays, alternating white enamel sections, and a richly detailed central medallion depicting the historic coat of arms of the Mongolian People's Republic. Its elaborate design incorporates a mounted horseman beneath a rising sun, traditional Mongolian hammer pattern, and crossed military weapons at the base. The reverse displays the characteristic circular recessed construction, two rivets, and original screwback fastening, together with the engraved individual award number.
This particular order retains its distinctive multicolored enamels, substantial raised details, and attractive period character, with natural surface wear consistent with its age. The 1959 Moscow Mint variation represents an important chapter in Mongolian military decorations, reflecting the close historical relationship between the Mongolian People's Republic and the Soviet Union during the Cold War. A desirable, individually numbered example of an established military order, particularly appealing to advanced collectors of Mongolian state awards, Soviet-manufactured decorations, and socialist-era military history.
