1960s Mongolian People’s Republic & North Korea Friendship Badge – Rare Original Issue

Original Item – Only One Available. A rare Cold War-era friendship badge symbolizing the relationship between the Mongolian People’s Republic and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. Mongolia and North Korea formally established diplomatic relations in October 1948, with Mongolia becoming one of the earliest countries to recognize the newly founded DPRK. Mongolia subsequently provided extensive aid during the Korean War, cared for North Korean war orphans, and participated in postwar reconstruction efforts. Although political differences arising from the Sino-Soviet split complicated relations during the 1960s, exchanges and trade continued, and bilateral friendship remained an established theme of socialist party diplomacy.

The badge combines the national flags of the DPRK and the Mongolian People’s Republic in a compact, layered composition. The North Korean flag appears at left with its red star and white disc, while the Mongolian flag carries the traditional Soyombo emblem. Below, a white-enameled scroll bears the word “Friendship.” Executed with vivid red, blue, and white enamel.

Condition is good for an original example of this period, with strong surviving enamel colors, honest surface wear and age-related patina visible throughout. Several small enamel imperfections are present and clearly shown in the photographs. The reverse carries the original pin fastening. Early Mongolian–North Korean friendship insignia is seldom encountered internationally, making this an appealing piece for collections of DPRK political badges, Mongolian socialist-era insignia, or Cold War diplomatic memorabilia.
