A rare matched pair of socialist-period Mongolian hunting distinctions comprising the “Mongolian People’s Republic Outstanding Hunter” badge and the corresponding “Mongolian People’s Republic Hunter” badge, dating to the 1960s. The Outstanding Hunter title was a genuine distinction of the period rather than simply decorative hunting insignia: awarded to hunters whose work contributed substantially to Mongolia’s state-organized fur procurement system & wildlife-product quotas. One period recipient recalled receiving the “State Outstanding Hunter” title and badge at the first congress of the Mongolian Hunters’ Society in the late 1960s.

The larger Outstanding Hunter badge is the more elaborate of the pair, with a red MPR heading above a pale-blue field inscribed “Outstanding Hunter.” Its design combines traditional hunting imagery, trap with green laurel foliage and red-and-gilt decorative elements, creating the formal appearance expected of a high-level socialist labor distinction. The accompanying Hunter badge is considerably more restrained: a compact shield marked “Mongolian People’s Republic Hunter”, with blue and green enamel and a prominent white stylized antler device. Both pieces retain their original period pin fittings and show natural age toning, surface wear and enamel marks consistent with genuine issued badges.
