Description

Original Item – Only One Available. A rare original 30th Anniversary badge of the Mongolian People’s Army Song & Dance Ensemble, issued in 1962 to mark three decades of one of Mongolia’s oldest professional military-art institutions. The present-day Mongolian Ministry of Defence traces the Ensemble’s history to 12 December 1932, when it gave its first performance for military representatives. During its long history it operated under several titles, including the Mongolian People’s Army Song & Dance Ensemble, the name reflected by the abbreviation “ААДБЧ” across the lower red panel of this badge. The 30th anniversary was particularly important: in 1962 the Ensemble was awarded the Order of Military Merit by the Mongolian state in recognition of its achievements.

The badge is a substantial, strongly sculptural socialist-period design built around a large translucent red five-pointed military star, with the Soyombo prominently placed in its upper field and a stylized lyre below to identify the Ensemble’s musical character. The anniversary numeral “30” occupies the lower radiating field, while the red-enameled scroll carries “ААДБЧ,” abbreviating the Army Song & Dance Ensemble. Beneath the translucent red enamel the star shows pronounced radiating texture, producing considerable depth as the badge catches the light. The gilt-toned outer rays, raised silver-toned Soyombo and lyre, and red enamel create a particularly rich early-1960s appearance. The reverse retains its original period safety-pin fastening and shows natural age patination and handling. Some areas of the red enamel have been restored or retouched at an earlier time, visible on close inspection; this is noted for complete accuracy and does not detract from the badge’s strong overall presentation or its originality as a period issue.

The Ensemble occupied a position far beyond that of an ordinary military band. The history records that between 1932 and 1942 it simultaneously performed the functions of a military theatre and ensemble and helped establish Mongolia’s first professional choir, orchestra, and dance groups; it later performed for troops during the 1945 Liberation War and became an important vehicle for military-patriotic culture and Mongolian performing arts. An anniversary badge from this formative period therefore represents both Mongolian People’s Army history and the early development of Mongolia’s professional performing arts. With its exact 30-year attribution, distinctive ААДБЧ inscription, and connection to the Ensemble’s state-recognized jubilee year of 1962, this is a particularly desirable original issue for an advanced collection of Mongolian People’s Army insignia, military-music badges, or early MPR institutional awards.
