Original Item – Only One Available. A scarce original graduate badge of the Mongolian Agricultural Institute, dating from the socialist-era 1970s. The institute had been established as an independent higher-education institution in 1958, when the agricultural faculties were separated from the National University of Mongolia to create a dedicated center for training the specialists needed to modernize the country’s livestock and agricultural economy. It initially trained veterinarians, zootechnicians and agronomists, later adding agricultural engineering and economics; the university’s own historical records specifically identify the institution under the KhAADS name from 1958 through 1992. A badge of this type therefore represented completed higher professional education at one of socialist Mongolia’s principal specialist institutes.

The badge follows the distinctive rhombus-form graduate insignia tradition of the socialist period, but with unmistakably Mongolian design. A translucent emerald-green radiating enamel diamond forms the center, carrying a separately applied gilt coat of arms of the Mongolian People’s Republic above the raised abbreviation “KhAADS.” Behind it is an elaborate openwork arrangement of interlocking white-enameled geometric motifs outlined in gilt metal, giving the badge considerably more visual complexity than the simpler university rhombuses. The reverse retains its original screwpost fastening and period screw plate marked “Ulaanbaatar”, confirming domestic Ulaanbaatar Mint manufacture rather than a Soviet-made import. The enamel remains particularly attractive, with only light age-related wear visible in the photographs.

For the specialist collector, this badge represents an important intersection of MPR higher education and the professionalization of Mongolian agriculture. During the 1970s, KhAADS was already training graduates across veterinary medicine, animal husbandry, agronomy and agricultural engineering, with an economics faculty added in the latter part of the decade. The combination of period MPR state heraldry, explicitly identified KhAADS affiliation, elaborate enamel construction and Ulaanbaatar-marked original fittings makes this a particularly attractive original for a collection of Mongolian educational badges, MPR institutional insignia, socialist graduate awards, or agricultural history.
