Description
Original Item – Only One Available. A rare and seldom-encountered badge from one of the most secretive institutions of the Mongolian People's Republic, the Military Academy of the Ministry of Public Security, known by its Mongolian abbreviation NAKHYA. Issued in the 1980s, this was the institution responsible for training the officers who would go on to serve in state security, intelligence, border protection, and the internal troops of socialist Mongolia, the elite pipeline through which the People's Republic shaped and staffed its most sensitive and closely guarded security apparatus. Badges from this institution are essentially unknown on the Western collector market, and for obvious reasons, an academy dedicated to training intelligence and security officers did not publicize its existence or distribute its insignia beyond its own walls. The badge takes a book-form shape in gilt metal with multi-color work, red and green which are NAKHYA main colors, framing a central gilt shield bearing the academy abbreviation in bold red lettering beneath a small red star, the whole composition evoking the open book of knowledge overlaid with the shield of state security. The reverse carries a standard pin-back fitting consistent with Mongolian People's Republic institutional badge production of the period.
Finding any badge attributable to the Mongolian security and intelligence officer training system is a significant event in this collecting field.
