Description
Original Item – Only One Available. A rare original “Outstanding Construction Worker” badge of the Mongolian People’s Army, awarded within the Army’s large military-construction establishment to personnel distinguished for exceptional professional and labor performance. The “Army Outstanding Construction Worker” is recognized distinction separate from the civilian “National Outstanding Construction Worker” title. This was an important field of service in socialist Mongolia: a central military construction administration was established in 1963, and by 1964 the Construction Troops had expanded to ten units and accounted for a remarkably large share of Army personnel. During the great building campaigns of the 1960s–1980s, these formations worked not only on military installations but on major industrial, housing and infrastructure projects across the country, making the Construction Troops one of the Mongolian People’s Army’s most visible peacetime forces.
The badge is an especially attractive two-part suspended construction, the pendant is built around a red five-pointed star with radiating gilt surfaces, overlaid by a white gear enclosing a pale-blue industrial scene of a tower crane and building under construction, a direct visual expression of the recipient’s military construction profession. The gilt-toned metal, red enamel, white gear and blue center give the piece a distinctive socialist industrial aesthetic. The reverse is plain and retains its original horizontal pin fastening and suspension ring, with natural age toning and period wear consistent with an issued example.
For the specialist collector, this badge represents a side of the Mongolian People’s Army that is often overlooked in favor of combat and anniversary decorations. Contemporary accounts credit the Army’s Construction Troops with carrying a substantial part of Mongolia’s building program during the 1960s–1980s, including factories, military facilities and major national development projects. The “Outstanding Construction Worker” distinction therefore records individual achievement inside one of the MPA’s most economically important service branches. Far less commonly encountered than standard Army jubilee badges, this is a desirable original issue for an advanced collection of Mongolian People’s Army insignia, military-construction awards, or Cold War-era MPR militaria.
