1970s Mongolian People’s Republic “People’s Judge” Honorary Judge Badge – Rare Original Issue

Original Item – Only One Available. An exceptionally scarce official badge of a People’s Judge of the Mongolian People’s Republic, dating to the mature socialist period of the 1970s. The blue-enamel scroll reads “People’s Judge.” This was not a general honorary decoration, but insignia associated with the exercise of judicial office within the MPR court system. Under the 1960 Constitution, the Supreme Court was elected by the People’s Great Khural, provincial and city courts by the corresponding assemblies of people’s deputies, and local people’s courts directly by citizens for fixed terms. The badge was therefore confined to a small, legally constituted body of serving judges rather than distributed as a broad departmental award.

The badge is an imposing multipiece composition built on a gilt, shield-shaped base with projecting crossed swords behind it. At the center, the applied state emblem of the Mongolian People’s Republic stands in relief over a translucent red-enamel field cut with radiating lines, producing a strong sunburst effect beneath the emblem. A deep blue-enamel ribbon crosses the lower face and carries the raised title “People’s Judge”. The reverse is plain and retains its original threaded screwpost and large circular retaining nut.

Condition is very good for an issued judicial badge of this period, with strong original gilt finish & clear relief. Light surface wear, fine scratches and minor age-related marks are visible under close examination, entirely consistent with official use and storage. Judicial insignia from socialist Mongolia appears far less frequently than military, labor or anniversary awards, and an original People’s Judge badge occupies a particularly difficult position in an advanced collection of Mongolian state institutions, legal history or rare MPR professional insignia.
