An original Mongolian-Soviet Combat Brotherhood Medal, a distinctive military honor representing the exceptionally close relationship between the armed forces of the Mongolian People’s Republic and the Soviet Union during the late Cold War. The Mongolian phrase carries the sense of combat or warrior brotherhood, a concept deeply rooted in the shared military history of the two countries, from the joint fighting at Khalkhin Gol in 1939 and the campaign against Japan in 1945 to decades of Soviet training, military assistance and cooperation with the Mongolian People’s Army. The decoration is known as a medal of combat cooperation between Mongolia and the USSR.

The medal is executed in gilt brass with enamel, its deliberately simple composition built around the paired military emblems of the two allied states. Two red-enamel five-pointed stars dominate the obverse: the Mongolian star carries the Soyombo, while the Soviet star bears the hammer and sickle, with crossed laurel branches below symbolizing honor and fraternity.
