Description
Original Item – Only One Available. An original 1972 Mongolian People’s Republic delegate badge issued for the 16th Congress of the Mongolian Revolutionary Youth League. The Mongolian Revolutionary Youth League was one of the principal mass political organizations of socialist Mongolia, organizing and politically educating the country’s younger generation under the leadership of the Mongolian People’s Revolutionary Party. Its 16th Congress was held in Ulaanbaatar from June 7–10, 1972.
The badge is executed in the form of a large flowing red revolutionary banner. The upper left displays the Revolutionary Youth League emblem, while the large Roman numeral “XVI” identifies the 16th Congress. Beneath it appears “Congress,” followed by “June 1972.” The rich translucent red enamel, gilt-colored raised lettering and substantial flag-shaped construction give the piece the impressive appearance characteristic of higher-quality congress insignia of the period.
This type is associated with the 16th Congress delegate issue, rather than an ordinary membership badge, and surviving examples are considerably less frequently encountered than standard Revolutionary Youth League insignia. The reverse retains its original horizontal pin fastening and period finish. An attractive and historically specific piece of Mongolian socialist political history, particularly desirable for collections of MPR political insignia, youth organization badges, congress delegate badges and Mongolian communist-era awards.
