Original Item – Only One Available. An original delegate badge of the XVII Congress of the Mongolian People’s Revolutionary Party, held in Ulaanbaatar from 14–18 June 1976. The congress brought together 813 delegates representing nearly 67,000 party members and stood among the principal political gatherings of the mature Yumjaagiin Tsedenbal period, reviewing the achievements of the Fifth Five-Year Plan and setting the economic and cultural direction of the Mongolian People’s Republic for 1976–1980. It also reinforced Mongolia’s exceptionally close political and economic relationship with the Soviet Union and the wider socialist bloc, with more than sixty foreign communist, workers’, and national-democratic delegations attending. Unlike the vast output of general MPRP anniversary and propaganda pins, a delegate badge belongs directly to a particular national party congress and to the comparatively small body of officials chosen to participate in it.

The badge is one of the more architectural and visually impressive designs in the later MPRP congress series. Made in gilt brass with enamel, its broad rectangular composition is divided between a brilliant radiating field carrying a large faceted red star and green laurel branch, and a deep red enamel panel inscribed “MPRP XVII Congress.” The heavy raised rays, polished gilt surfaces, translucent red enamel and small green enamel accents give the badge considerably more presence than an ordinary political pin. The reverse is plain gilt brass and retains its original horizontal safety-pin fitting, with light age and handling traces consistent with a period-worn example.

MPRP congress badges form a particularly worthwhile series because each issue marks a specific stage in the political history of socialist Mongolia, and the 1976 XVII Congress sits squarely in the final decade of Tsedenbal’s long leadership. Original delegate insignia appear far less frequently than commemorative badges produced for the general public, and this substantial gilt-brass type is especially attractive as a standalone piece. For a collection of Mongolian political history, socialist-era party insignia, Cold War material, or a chronological run of MPRP congress badges, this is a strong original example from one of the defining congresses of the period.
