Description
Original Item – Only One Available. A rare 1980 50th Anniversary Badge of the State Arbitration Service of the Mongolian People’s Republic, issued for half a century of Mongolia’s state arbitration system. Mongolia’s first arbitration institution was established in 1930, giving the badge’s large “50” a clear 1930–1980 chronology. The fiftieth anniversary was formally observed in 1980 by the State Arbitration Office under the Council of Ministers of the MPR, with an official anniversary program approved that year. During the socialist period, State Arbitration occupied an important place in Mongolia’s legal and economic administration, resolving contractual and property disputes between state enterprises, cooperatives and other economic organizations and helping enforce the contractual discipline of the centrally planned economy. This should not be confused with Mongolia’s separate Foreign Trade Arbitration Commission established in 1960; the present badge commemorates the older State Arbitration Service itself.
The badge is a substantial suspended construction in brass with red, white and light-blue enamel. Around the circular body appears “Mongolian People’s Republic Arbitration Service,” surrounding a red central field with a white-enamel institutional emblem and the anniversary numeral “50.” The suspension is finished in the blue-red-blue colors, while the reverse is characteristically plain and retains its original horizontal pin fastening.
For the specialist collector, this is an unusually interesting piece because it represents the legal and economic-administrative machinery of the MPR rather than its more commonly collected organizations. The State Arbitration system had expanded by the 1960s to include arbitration functions at provincial and city level, and a major organizational revision in 1977 strengthened its role in economic-contract relations. The 1980 golden-jubilee issue therefore dates from the mature final period of the institution, shortly before the State Arbitration structure underwent major reorganization in the early 1980s. With its explicit MPR Arbitration Service inscription, 50th-anniversary designation, original suspension and comparatively specialized institutional subject, this is a particularly desirable badge for collections of Mongolian legal history, government institutions, socialist economic administration or rare MPR departmental insignia.
