Description
Original Item – Only One Available. A rare Type 3, Variation 2 “Excellent Police Officer” badge of the Mongolian People’s Republic, issued during the later socialist period to distinguished personnel of the national police establishment. This distinction recognized exemplary professional service, discipline and achievement within the country’s law-enforcement system. Among the two recognized Type 3 versions, Variation 2 is regarded by specialist collectors as the scarcer pattern, appearing considerably less often than the more familiar Variation 1.
The badge is an imposing multipiece construction built on a broad shield covered in distinctive grey-blue enamel. At its center is the separately applied state emblem of the Mongolian People’s Republic, positioned over a vertical gilt sword and beneath the enameled national flag. A red-enamel cartouche bearing the initials “ОС” is framed by dark green laurel branches at the base. Variation 2 is immediately distinguished from Variation 1 by its muted grey-blue shield field and associated production details, giving it a noticeably different appearance despite retaining the same general Type 3 composition. The reverse retains its original threaded screwpost and circular retaining plate marked “Moscow Mint.”
Condition is good and honest for an officially issued badge of this period. The gilt finish remains attractive, the central emblem retains strong relief with expected surface scratches and handling wear visible in the photographs. As the less frequently encountered of the two Type 3 variations, this Moscow Mint example fills a particularly difficult position in an advanced collection of Mongolian police awards, socialist law-enforcement insignia or Cold War security-service memorabilia.
