Description

Original Item – Only One Available. A rare “Glory of Labor” Gold Medal of the Mongolian Revolutionary Youth League, the nationwide socialist youth organization of the Mongolian People’s Republic. Founded in 1921, it functioned as the principal youth organization connected with the ruling Mongolian People’s Revolutionary Party and by the 1980s played a major role in organizing young workers, students and specialists for Mongolia’s economic and social-development programs. The Glory of Labor distinction formed part of the League’s own system of achievement awards and was issued in gold, silver and bronze grades.

The present example is the desirable Gold grade, executed as a large suspended gilt-metal medal with a simple deep-red suspension. The circular medallion bears the inscription “Glory of Labor”, with stylized laurel branch rises along the right side, while industrial forms complete the lower border. Unlike many decorative anniversary issues, the design is deliberately occupational and ideological, celebrating personal achievement in productive work rather than a single historical event. The reverse is plain and retains its original horizontal pin fastening; the present piece shows attractive age toning and light service wear while preserving a strong original gilt finish.

For the specialist collector, this medal is particularly interesting because it belongs to the Mongolian Revolutionary Youth League Central Committee award tradition rather than Mongolia’s regular state order-and-medal system. Contemporary recipient histories show the “Glory of Labor” being awarded to accomplished workers and professionals across very different fields: an agricultural mechanizer received the silver medal in 1983, a leading mining specialist received the gold medal in 1988, and noted cultural figures were awarded the gold grade in 1989. This broad distribution reflects the League’s role in recognizing exemplary young labor throughout socialist society. With its Gold-grade construction, unmistakable labor-and-technology symbolism and direct association with the Mongolian Revolutionary Youth League at the height of the late MPR period, this is a strong addition to collections of Mongolian socialist awards, youth-organization insignia, occupational decorations or Cold War labor medals.
