Description
Original Item – Only One Available. A rare original Mongolian People’s Army officer participation badge connected with the VII Mongolian All-People’s Spartakiad of 1983, the seventh edition of the country’s major nationwide physical-culture and sporting competition. Mongolia’s All-People’s Spartakiad system began in 1961 and brought together athletes and organized delegations from across the republic, including the armed forces; official histories record the military-affiliated Aldar organization among the established participants in this national sporting structure. This particular badge belongs to the Mongolian People’s Army contingent and was intended for officers involved in the 1983 Spartakiad rather than representing a competitive medal. The prominent red five-pointed star charged with the Soyombo identifies its military character immediately, placing the piece at the intersection of MPA institutional history and one of socialist Mongolia’s largest organized sporting events.
The badge consists of a rectangular red suspension bar bearing the large Roman numeral “VII,” identifying the seventh Spartakiad, suspended from a substantial circular gilt-toned medallion. Across the upper field appears “Spartakiad,” while the center carries the red Mongolian People’s Army star with Soyombo emblem, the principal visual feature distinguishing this military issue from general sporting material. Green laurel branches rise from either side of a red scroll dated “1983,” completing a distinctly socialist military-sport composition. The reverse is plain and retains its original period horizontal pin fastening and connecting ring; the surfaces show attractive age toning and honest period wear.
For the specialist collector, the significance of this badge lies in its very specific institutional purpose: it documents the Mongolian People’s Army’s officer-level involvement in the national VII All-People’s Spartakiad. Military participation material from individual Mongolian Spartakiads is considerably more specialized than the standard anniversary badges normally encountered, and the combination of the MPA emblem, VII designation, and exact 1983 date gives this example excellent historical identity. A scarce Cold War-era original for an advanced collection of Mongolian People’s Army insignia, military sports material, or MPR-period awards and badges.
