An original 1983 Mongolian People’s Republic badge issued for delegates of the XVIII Congress of the Mongolian Revolutionary Youth League, one of the principal political and mass youth organizations of socialist Mongolia. The League operated under the political leadership of the Mongolian People’s Revolutionary Party and played an important role in the political education, organization and mobilization of Mongolian youth during the socialist period.

The badge is formed as a large stylized red revolutionary banner. At the upper section is the emblem of the Mongolian Revolutionary Youth League, while the large Roman numeral “XVIII” identifies the 18th Congress. The lower green panel bears the inscription “Congress.” The piece is finished in rich red, blue, green and white enamel with gilt-colored raised details and retains its original horizontal pin fastening on the reverse.

The XVIII Congress of the Mongolian Revolutionary Youth League took place in Ulaanbaatar in May 1983, making this a specifically datable political congress badge rather than a general membership insignia. Its unusually large flag-shaped construction and elaborate enamel work make it an especially attractive example of late MPR political insignia and a desirable piece for collections of Mongolian socialist, political, youth organization and congress badges.
