An original 1990 60th Anniversary Badge of the Prosecutor’s Office of the Mongolian People’s Republic, issued to mark six decades since the establishment of Mongolia’s state prosecutorial system. The institution was formally created on 14 August 1930, when Resolution No. 25 of the Presidium of the State Small Khural approved the regulations governing the State Prosecutor and established prosecutor’s offices at central and local level. During the socialist period the Prosecutor’s Office occupied a powerful position within the MPR legal system: from the 1940 Constitution through 1990, its authority extended beyond criminal proceedings to broad general supervision over observance of the law by state bodies, public and cooperative organizations, officials and citizens. The 60th anniversary therefore fell at a particularly important historical moment, in 1990, as Mongolia began dismantling the old socialist political structure and redefining the constitutional position of its state institutions.

This example is the distinctive lightweight aluminum variation of the 60th-anniversary issue. A silver-colored multi-pointed starburst forms the body, centered by a dark blue enamel ring inscribed “Prosecutor’s Office.” Within it is a white field carrying the red shield and Soyombo. The upper suspension bears a large “60” beside a laurel branch against red enamel, finished above with a traditional Mongolian hammer pattern border. Compared with the heavier brass version of the same anniversary, this type uses a noticeably lighter aluminum construction, while retaining the full enamel treatment and suspended format. The original horizontal pin fastening remains intact, and the present example shows attractive period wear with well-preserved red, blue and white enamel.

For the specialist collector, the lightweight aluminum variation is particularly worthwhile because it documents a separate manufacturing form of a narrowly distributed departmental anniversary badge. Its 1990 date places it at the very end of the Mongolian People’s Republic era: constitutional amendments adopted that year altered the appointment of the MPR Prosecutor, while the new democratic Constitution of 1992 subsequently reorganized the institution within Mongolia’s new legal order and replaced the former MPR Prosecutor structure with the modern Prosecutor General system. The combination of its 60th-jubilee significance, unmistakable Prosecutor’s Office inscription, late-MPR date and lightweight aluminum construction makes this an excellent companion to the heavier 60th Anniversary variation and a scarce addition to collections of Mongolian legal history, prosecutor and justice-service insignia, departmental awards or late-socialist MPR badges.
