This particular Type 2, Variation 2 represents a late-1990s issue, Honored Railway Worker badge of Mongolia, manufactured by the Moscow Mint and preserved with its original fitted presentation case. One of the principal professional distinctions of the Mongolian railway system, the title recognized sustained and distinguished service in a field dominated for decades by the Mongolian-Russian Ulaanbaatar Railway. Founded in 1949 as a joint Mongolian-Soviet railway enterprise, Ulaanbaatar Railway became the backbone of the country’s long-distance transport network and retained its unusual binational structure after Mongolia’s political transition of the early 1990s. The Honored Railway Worker distinction likewise survived that transition and became part of the formal Government system of railway-sector awards, making these early post-socialist issues an important continuation of one of Mongolia’s longest-established transport traditions.
