A rare original 70th Anniversary badge of the Mongolian People’s Army, produced in 1991 to commemorate the military tradition traced to the revolutionary armed forces established in 1921. More than an ordinary jubilee piece, the 1921–1991 issue belongs to the closing chapter of the socialist-era Mongolian People’s Army. The anniversary came directly amid Mongolia’s democratic and institutional transition: the new constitutional framework adopted in 1992 established the legal foundation for restructuring the country’s defense system. This makes the 70th-anniversary issue one of the final commemorative badges associated with the historic MPA system and gives it a significance that the earlier 50th and 60th anniversary issues do not possess.

The badge is formed as a substantial shield-shaped gilt-toned piece, with the dates “1921–1991” flanking a large raised Soyombo, Mongolia’s historic national emblem. Below is a crossed military rifle-and-saber composition, giving the design an unmistakably martial character while deliberately retaining the visual language of the People’s Army at the end of its socialist period. The reverse is plain and retains its original horizontal pin fastening. The piece shows natural age patination, light surface wear and handling consistent with an issued early-1990s badge.

For the specialist collector, the importance of this badge lies in its transitional date as much as its design. Mongolia was already moving away from the political and military structure of the People’s Republic when the 70th anniversary was commemorated in 1991; a Defense Minister’s order that year also authorized the major military parade connected with the 70th anniversary commemorations.
