1998 Russian MVD Moscow Region Criminal Investigation Department 80th Anniversary Badge – Pobeda Moscow, Original Issue

Description

Original Item – Only One Available. An original 1998 Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs Moscow Region Criminal Investigation Department 80th Anniversary Badge, commemorating the institutional tradition of the criminal-investigation service established in 1918. On 5 October 1918, the Soviet NKVD approved the regulations establishing criminal-investigation departments for the covert investigation of serious criminal offenses and the fight against banditry; this date subsequently became the recognized anniversary of Russia’s Criminal Investigation Service. This regional issue was produced for the Moscow Region criminal-investigation community, distinguishing it from the separate Moscow City Criminal Investigation Department traditionally known as MUR, and was associated with the serving officers and veterans of the regional detective service.

Unlike general police souvenir insignia, this badge commemorates a specific professional branch and regional service, the criminal investigators responsible for detecting serious crime, identifying and apprehending offenders, and conducting operational-search work within the Ministry of Internal Affairs system. The combination of its 1998 80th-anniversary attribution, Moscow Region identity, elaborate enamel construction and original Pobeda Moscow fitting makes it a strong period example for a collection of Russian MVD, Soviet/Russian criminal-investigation, police or law-enforcement insignia.
