A rare early-2000s honorary donor badge of the Mongolian Donors Association, the national non-governmental organization established in 1999 to unite experienced blood donors, support the welfare of honorary donors, and promote voluntary blood donation throughout Mongolia. The Association developed alongside Mongolia’s much older honorary-donor tradition: the Mongolian Red Cross had introduced the country’s Honorary Donor title and badge in 1962, while the newly formed Donors Association became an important organization representing and recognizing long-serving donors from the post-socialist period onward. This piece belongs specifically to that newer institutional chapter of Mongolian donor history and should be distinguished from the standard Red Cross Honorary Donor insignia.

The badge is an elaborate suspended gilt, silvered and multicolor enamel construction. Its rectangular upper bar is prominently inscribed “Mongolian Donors Association,” immediately identifying the issuing organization. Suspended below is a faceted star-form medallion centered on the universal donor symbol of a red blood drop bearing a medical cross, framed by alternating red-and-blue enamel elements in Mongolia’s national colors. The contrasting polished silver-colored rays, gilt detailing and red enamel give the badge a considerably more formal appearance than an ordinary membership pin. The reverse is plain and retains the original pin fastening on the suspension bar, with light age and handling marks consistent with an issued piece.
