Description
This official issued badge was created in 2012 to mark the 90th anniversary of the General Intelligence Agency of Mongolia, the direct successor to the country’s first state security service founded in 1922. Throughout its history, the Mongolian intelligence service has been closely tied to both domestic security and international intelligence operations, particularly during the Cold War, making its anniversary insignia historically significant.
The design features a dark blue enamel with the Soyombo symbol at center, set against a radiant backdrop with sword motif and inscribed “90” below, marking the jubilee year.
Unlike commemorative souvenirs, this piece was an official service issue and awarded within the agency, not sold or made widely available. Surviving examples are limited, as they were strictly distributed to members of the intelligence community. As such, it represents a rare opportunity for collectors of Mongolian, intelligence, or Cold War–era memorabilia to acquire a genuine piece tied directly to the history of one of Asia’s least-documented security services.
