Description
A rare original pair of field-uniform shoulder boards for the President of Mongolia in the capacity of Commander-in-Chief of the Mongolian Armed Forces. These are not ordinary officer rank boards, but distinctive insignia reserved for the office of the Commander-in-Chief.
The boards are manufactured on Mongolia’s digital camouflage field-uniform fabric and feature elaborate gold embroidery. At the center is the traditional Soyombo emblem, one of Mongolia’s principal national symbols, surrounded by an ornate continuous geometric border. The subdued camouflage foundation contrasts strongly with the gold embroidered insignia, clearly distinguishing the Commander-in-Chief pattern from standard military rank shoulder boards. Mongolia introduced a four-tone digital camouflage pattern for field uniforms and shoulder boards in 2011, making this design characteristic of the modern digital-camouflage period of the Mongolian Armed Forces. Because the President constitutionally serves as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, this pattern occupies a special position above the normal military rank structure rather than representing a conventional officer rank.
A highly unusual and specialized pair of modern Mongolian military insignia, particularly desirable for collections focused on Mongolian Armed Forces command insignia, presidential military insignia, field uniforms, and post-socialist Mongolian militaria.
