The service traces its origins to 12 September 1946, when the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Mongolian People's Republic established a specialized investigative group of ten officers, laying the foundation for Mongolia's modern criminal investigation system. Over the following decades, the organization developed into a nationwide investigative service responsible for examining serious criminal offenses, collecting evidence, identifying offenders, and conducting complex criminal investigations.
