Description

Original Item – Only One Available. A rare original "For Loyalty to Duty" medal of the Private Military Company Wagner, featuring the paired portraits of Yevgeny Prigozhin and Dmitry Utkin, the two principal figures associated with the organization's leadership and military development. Emerging as a Russian private military formation in 2014, Wagner became deeply involved in military operations in Syria, several African countries, and Ukraine, developing its own internal system of awards recognizing combat service, personal merit, and contributions to the organization. Prigozhin directed the group's political, financial, and organizational activities, while Utkin, a former Russian military intelligence officer whose call sign gave Wagner its name, commanded its military operations and training. Both died in an aircraft crash on August 23, 2023, an event that fundamentally altered the organization's leadership and future. The "For Loyalty to Duty" distinction belongs to Wagner's internal award tradition, recognizing personal merit and devotion to assigned responsibilities rather than constituting an official Russian state decoration. This example is the original Variation 2 execution, supplied with its burgundy presentation case, distinct from the considerably scarcer Variation 1 associated with a large wooden presentation box.

The medal is struck in silver-toned metal and features overlapping left-facing relief portraits of Prigozhin and Utkin. The restrained portrait composition directly commemorates the two figures whose names became inseparable from Wagner's history. The reverse carries the organization's designation, "Wagner Private Military Company," above a central five-pointed star flanked by crossed military swords, with the inscription "For Loyalty to Duty" following the lower circumference. The medal is suspended from a folded grey ribbon with broad black borders and narrow red and yellow stripes, mounted on a traditional metal suspension plate with a pin fastening. This example is accompanied by its rectangular burgundy presentation case with a transparent protective cover, allowing the complete medal and ribbon to be displayed together. The silver-toned surfaces retain their detailed portrait relief and original appearance, with light toning and minor handling marks visible in the photographs. The ribbon remains well preserved, and the presentation case shows modest surface wear.

Within modern private military collecting, the Prigozhin–Utkin portrait medal represents a distinctive chapter in Wagner's internal award history, closely associated with the organization's leadership and the period following the deaths of its two principal figures. Two presentation variations are recognized, with the large wooden-box Variation 1 considered substantially scarcer and associated with a much more limited distribution. The present Variation 2 retains the same distinctive double-portrait concept in a more compact presentation format, complete with its fitted case. Unlike conventional Wagner combat awards tied to individual operations, this medal is particularly notable for its direct portrayal of the organization's leadership and its emphasis on loyalty and duty. A rarely encountered original example for specialized collections of contemporary Russian military decorations, Wagner organizational awards, and post-Soviet paramilitary history.
