A scarce commemorative medal and matching lapel badge issued for the 30th anniversary of OMON “Simbir,” the Special Purpose Mobile Unit of the Russian National Guard in the Ulyanovsk Region. The formation was established on 1 December 1993 by orders of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs and the regional internal-affairs directorate, using personnel from Ulyanovsk’s separate patrol-service battalion. The honorary unit name “Simbir,” recalling the historic name of Ulyanovsk, was formally assigned in 2022; this matched set was produced for the unit’s anniversary in 2023.

The silver-toned medal presents a modern OMON operator in full tactical equipment, framed by Russian tricolor lines and the dates 1993–2023. The applied gilt insignia and inscription identify OMON “Simbir,” while the large red-enameled numeral 30 dominates the lower composition. Its reverse carries the double-headed eagle of the National Guard, the full inscription “Federal Service of the National Guard Troops of the Russian Federation,” and the motto “Always on Guard.” The accompanying gilt and red-enamel miniature badge repeats the shield-and-sword unit design and the inscription “30 Years OMON Simbir,” retaining its original clutch fastening.

Condition is excellent overall, with crisp relief, clean contrasting finishes and well-preserved red, blue and white enamel. The medal remains on its original burgundy-and-silver pentagonal ribbon mount with complete pin fastening, and the matching anniversary badge is likewise complete. Unit-specific Rosgvardia jubilee sets were created for a comparatively limited circle of personnel and veterans, and complete medal-and-pin groupings are less frequently encountered than isolated examples, an attractive modern addition to a collection of Russian OMON, National Guard or special-police insignia.
