A rare 55th Anniversary badge of K-5 of Russia’s Academy of Foreign Intelligence, the specialized training institution of the Foreign Intelligence Service of the Russian Federation (SVR). The Academy traces its institutional lineage to the School of Special Purpose established in 1938, later developing through the Higher Intelligence School and the Red Banner Institute of the KGB’s foreign-intelligence system before becoming the Academy of Foreign Intelligence in 1994. Its purpose is unusually specific even among Russian security institutions: the Academy prepares operational officers for service within the SVR, with its teaching structure organized around specialized departments and disciplines closely connected to the requirements of active foreign-intelligence work. This badge commemorates 55 years of K-5, one of the Academy’s internal departmental structures, placing it within the much narrower field of unit- and department-level intelligence insignia rather than the more frequently encountered general Academy anniversary material. 

The design deliberately connects the department’s modern SVR identity with the Soviet lineage from which the Academy developed.
