A rare 85th Anniversary badge of the Academy of Foreign Intelligence of the Russian Federation, commemorating the institutional training lineage that began with the School of Special Purpose (ШОН) in 1938. Created specifically to prepare personnel for Soviet foreign-intelligence work, SHON developed through a succession of increasingly specialized intelligence schools and institutes before becoming the present Academy of Foreign Intelligence. The Academy today serves as the principal higher educational institution for the SVR, responsible for the professional training and advanced instruction of foreign-intelligence officers and specialist personnel. This jubilee therefore marks eighty-five years of the dedicated educational tradition behind Soviet and Russian foreign intelligence, rather than a general anniversary of the SVR itself.
