Russian SVR Foreign Intelligence Service Indoor Office Flag – Size 135 × 90, Rare Original Issue

Description

Original Item – Only One Available. A rare original indoor-display flag of Russia's Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR), the country's principal foreign intelligence agency and successor to the Soviet KGB's First Chief Directorate. Established as an independent Russian intelligence service in 1991, the SVR inherited the foreign intelligence responsibilities and professional traditions of the Soviet intelligence establishment, including clandestine intelligence collection, overseas operations, and strategic intelligence analysis. Its distinctive departmental flag was formally established by Presidential Decree No. 1233 on October 31, 2009, as an official symbol of the Russian Federation's foreign intelligence service. The flag is authorized for display in the offices of the SVR Director, deputy directors, and heads of services, as well as during official ceremonies and institutional events. This particular example is a lightweight indoor-display version, with a distinctive printed execution differing from commonly available commercial reproductions, making it an especially interesting piece of modern Russian intelligence-service material.

The flag measures approximately 135 × 90 cm and displays the SVR's official heraldic composition, dominated by a broad cornflower-blue cross with expanding arms against alternating white and red fields. At its center stands the imposing golden double-headed eagle of the Foreign Intelligence Service. The eagle holds a crossed silver sword and flaming torch, traditional elements of the service's heraldry, while its breast carries a circular dark-blue shield bordered in silver with twelve golden fastenings. Within the shield is a radiant silver five-pointed star surrounding a blue globe with golden parallels and meridians, representing the worldwide scope of Russian foreign intelligence operations. The detailed emblem is printed directly onto thin, lightweight textile material, with stitched edges and a flexible construction suited to office interiors and ceremonial display rather than prolonged outdoor exposure. The flag retains its strong red, white, blue, and gold coloration, with visible folding creases and minor handling marks consistent with storage.

For collectors of Russian intelligence and state security memorabilia, this flag represents the official institutional identity of the SVR rather than a particular subordinate directorate or training establishment. Its heraldry connects the post-Soviet foreign intelligence service with the broader traditions of Russian state symbolism, while the distinctive globe-centered emblem identifies its specific intelligence function. Unlike standard commercially produced souvenir flags, this example is distinguished by its particular printing characteristics, making it a desirable addition to collections of SVR insignia, intelligence-service flags, and modern Russian departmental memorabilia. Its substantial display dimensions also provide an impressive visual representation of one of Russia's principal intelligence institutions.
