Original Item – Only One Available. A rare departmental commemorative badge marking the 85th anniversary of the Special Communications Directorate of Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service. The lower inscription reads “85 years УСС,” with УСС referring to Upravlenie Spetsialnoy Svyazi, the Special Communications Directorate. Within the foreign-intelligence system, secure communications are essential to maintaining protected contact between headquarters, overseas stations, and operational personnel; Russian legislation specifically includes the use of special communications and radio-electronic methods abroad among the activities supporting foreign-intelligence work. Surviving collector references identify this anniversary type directly with the SVR and its special-communications branch.

The badge is an elaborate multipiece construction in gilt and silvered metal with blue and red enamel. Its central globe carries a large parabolic antenna and an orbiting communications satellite, joined by a red signal motif across the map, an unusually direct representation of encrypted long-range communications and technical support to overseas intelligence activity. Behind the globe rises a layered starburst of silvered rays, dark-blue panels, and gilt framing, crowned by the Russian SVR double-headed eagle emblem. 

Condition is very good, with glossy enamel, strong contrasting finishes, crisp relief, and only light handling marks visible under close photography. The reverse reveals the badge’s substantial layered construction and retains its original central threaded post and screw plate. Unit- and directorate-specific SVR anniversary insignia was produced for a narrow institutional audience and appears considerably less often than general Foreign Intelligence Service badges, making this a particularly impressive example for an advanced collection of Russian intelligence, signals, satellite-communications, or post-Soviet security-service insignia.
